artist's statement

Motion and energy, allegory (both personal and historical), hiding, pushing, floating, flying, holding something and pushing things away, fear, support, being trapped, being released, the scent of mystery, diving, swimming, struggle, sites, running, diving, falling, ascension, traveling, fire and non-literal self portraiture. These are some of the themes that I work with all within the figurative and abstract qualities of the paint.

Animals, especially birds or beasts appear occasionally and they are a part of the story line.

The themes are life and death, past and present and in it's broadest and most universal sense. They carry my experience with them.

The main objective is always working with paint and composition and the vast complexity of making a blank surface into something expressive for myself and ultimately the viewer.

I work in a spontaneous manner, sometimes from a starting point of a thought or theme, and then I let the image develop before me.
